Dr. Keith Lahikainen – “Hope: The Role of Psychology and Biblical Truth in Facing Uncertainty”

Hope is often defined psychologically as a positive anticipatory emotion or a positive cognitive state regarding the future which often occurs in the context of negative or uncertain circumstances (e.g., Snyder, 1991). The Bible makes it clear that hope is given to us from God through the Spirit (Rom. 5:5, 15:13) and is ultimately rooted in the person and work of Jesus Christ (1 Peter 1:3, Eph. 1:18). Hope gives us both a sustaining affective experience and a motivation to respond to life in positive ways. Come learn about how psychology informs our understanding and practice of biblical hope in the face of life’s uncertainties.
